After briefly dying during a routine operation disgruntled dentist Bertram Pincus (Gervais) wakes to find he has the ability to see ghosts.

Annoyingly Pincus becomes hot property to the dead inhabitants of New York who hope he can help them take care of unfinished business, especially the late Frank Herlihy (Kinnear) who will keep them at bay in return for breaking up the impending marriage of his late widow Gwen (Leoni).

In his first Hollywood lead role Ricky Gervais does what he does best and gives a funny slightly embarrassing edge to his character,

Ghost Town isn’t the most original of ideas, the formula has been seen many times in Hollywood and could be funnier than it actually is, however it has a very good script and quirky one liners and is actually more of a bittersweet rom - com than a laugh out loud comedy.

Verdict – Touching light hearted rom - com with funny intervals
